That's A Wrap!
Latest updates on the 2021-2022 application cycle and opportunities for those applying in 2022!
Happy Friday All,
Around this time of the year, me, Uzoma and Jamie typically get some alone time to you know, re-kindle the RadCast romance (wink, wink). But this year, things are a bit different. Firstly, we’ve lost all confidence in the system and we pride ourselves on being there for you guys when things go to the shi**er (pardon my French). That’s why we’ve decided to postpone our yearly RadCast honeymoon getaway so you guys know we’re available if there’s any further last minute f**k ups. Secondly, we know that a lot of new budding radiology applicants have entered the scene and are looking to prepare their applications for November 2022. For you guys, we want you to know that our doors are always open if you need any guidance or support.
So, without further ado, let’s get into the latest radiology application updates.
Appeal Portfolio Scores Are Out
For those of you that appealed your verified portfolio scores, you should have received confirmation if they were accepted or not. If they were, congratulations and I’m glad you exerted your right to appeal since you’re entitled to it. If not, please do not see it as the end of the world. I know it’s easier said than done, but just take it on the chin. Also please note, there is no point trying to appeal the appeal. It won’t work and it isn’t something they facilitate. So do not bombard the recruitment leads with angry/stern emails saying you want an appeal of your appeal. Whilst you were entitled to an initial appeal, you do not have the right to ask for a second appeal. Don’t stick your neck out too far and make the recruitment leads think you’re coming across as unprofessional. There’s no point risking it.
Deanery Ranking Guidance
We know this is a big issue for a lot of candidates and is often the final headache during the application process (aside from having to endure my lame newsletter jokes). Whilst we are currently working on a comprehensive document outlining the training across different deaneries, this won’t be ready in time for this years application cycle. Instead, we have two documents which may be of use but please note, these are not the most up-to-date documents.
The first is an outline of the different clinical radiology training programmes across England, Scotland and Wales. Whilst it was written in 2020, it is still a great starter in terms of getting an insight into the structure of the training programmes. You can access it via the button below:
The second document was acquired following a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to Health Education England (which is pretty badass) which outlines the lowest ranked applicant accepted to each deanery within each specialty for the 2020 application cycle (2019-2020). So, when you open it, go to the Clinical Radiology tab and there you’ll see what the lowest ranked score was required per deanery in the 2019-2020 cycle. Remember, this is just to give you an indication of the likely score and you should be aware that the scores may have changed. You can access it via the button below:
Build Your Portfolio For The Next Application Cycle
This applies specifically to candidates aiming to apply in November 2022 i.e. the 2022-2023 application cycle.
Specifically, this is the perfect time to now build the perfect portfolio to secure as many portfolio points for the radiology application. Trust us, and I’m sure current candidates will say the same thing, every point matters. This is more important than before since the number of applicants for radiology is drastically increasing year-upon-year; there were approx 2200 applicants for the 2021-2022 cycle. Yes, the number of spaces in radiology is going up, but this is only at a steady rate and does not reflect the steep rise in applicant numbers which we think will rise once again for 2022-2023.
So, if you are applying in November 2022, we’d be more than happy to give your current portfolio a review to see where and how you can improve. All you need to do is get in touch via the button below:
Radiology Conferences Accepting Abstracts
As part of grassroots work at RadCast, we make sure to direct you guys to as many opportunities both internally and externally which could be of help to you. One such thing is conferences which is a huge portfolio win. So if you haven’t already, make sure you actively review if the big radiology conferences are accepting abstracts e.g. RCR, UKIO, BIR, RSNA. For those of you weren’t aware, the RCR is now accepting abstracts and you can find out more information via the buttons below.
As always, our inbox is open for any questions so please do send them in to hello@radcast.co.uk!
Till next time,
