D-Day Is Here: Rankings and Results have been Released!
Make sure to check Oriel ASAP for your rankings & results!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
It’s finally here.
Yes, D-Day is upon yes. Yes, results and rankings are out. Yes, we’re in full panic mode.
For those of you that haven’t already, check your Oriel ASAP! You should now be able to see the breakdown of your scores for each element of the application (MSRA, portfolio and interview) and more importantly, your final rank. So what happens now?
Well unfortunately, it involves a bit more waiting as the “ranking algorithm” goes bbbbrrrrrr and starts to go through each candidate and allocate them into their preferred deaneries based on their rank.
Provided everything goes smoothly, fingers crossed, all candidates should receive their application outcome by the end of the working day today (5pm).
At this stage, there are 3 potential outcomes:
1. Deemed Appointable & Ranked High Enough To Get Into Your Preferred Deanery
For candidates in this group, congratulations! Time to pop the champagne (or rose water)! Welcome to the dark side #teamradiology #classof2023!
2. Deemed Appointable But Not Ranked High Enough To Get Into Your Preferred Deanery
Candidates in this group are on a ‘reserve’ list meaning they will have to patiently wait to see if other candidates decide to reject their offer i.e. choose another deanery or pursue another specialty. Due to delays in results being released for other specialty programmes, this process may take longer than previous years. Once again, it’s imperative you remain patient. We know it’s easier said than done but honestly, there’s not much else you can do. The ranking cascade will keep churning through the candidates until 1) all available training posts have been accepted or 2) the deadline to ‘hold’ offers passes meaning the application has come to an end. One thing we would recommend here is that candidates should be aware of the deadlines to ‘hold’ existing offers across the various specialties. You can find this information by checking out the official specialty recruitment page using the button below:
3. Not Deemed Appointable
Unfortunately for candidates at this stage, your application has come to an end. As per previous application cycles, you need to have met a cut-off score at the interview to be deemed appointable. Candidates who do not meet this threshold are not able to progress onto the next stage i.e. get ranked into a deanery.
Moving Forward: Looking To The 2023-2024 Application Cycle (The RadCast Way)
As we’ve discussed earlier, congratulations to those of you successful this year. Honestly, we’re virtually ‘high-fiving’ all of you. Go relax, enjoy the spoils of war and look forward to starting radiology training in August 2023.
For those of you not successful, we are still here for you. As they say, “you may have lost the battle but not the war”. We know you may be feeling dejected and demoralised. That’s totally understandable. But, please don’t use this rejection as a sign that your radiology ambitions are ‘over’. We’ve worked with numerous candidates who were initially rejected on their first attempt but successful in their future applications.
With that being said, we are now in the process of finalising our ‘Next Steps’ webinar were we will breakdown the events of the 2022-2023 application cycle, common pitfalls experienced by candidates and how to start maximising your application now e.g. portfolio, MSRA. It’ll be held virtually and of course, recorded for those of you who can’t make it. You can RSVP for the webinar via the button below:
RadCast Needs You!
Finally, as is tradition every year, we would love to hear from you. Specifically, we’re looking to capture feedback on how we can improve RadCast in terms of the support we offer. Additionally, we’re looking to expand and bring on new talented individuals to help us take RadCast to the next level. So, we’d love to get feedback from candidates who went through the application cycle to 1) find out how you did and 2) identify areas where we can improve. We’ll also be reviewing the feedback and identifying individuals who we’ll reach out to privately to discuss opportunities for joining the RadCast fraternity.
So there you have it! Another year of applications has come and gone. Every year, we get blown away by how talented you all are. Honestly, the future of radiology is very, very bright (before AI comes and takes all our jobs of course). For those of you starting your radiology training in August, thank you for riding the RadCast Express. We hope you had a pleasant journey, enjoyed the snacks along the way and feel free to reach out to us if you want any tips on life as an ST1. For those of you still continuing your application journey, we’re still be with you every step of the way. Regardless of the outcome, from all of us at RadCast, thank you for giving us the privilege to join you on your application journey.
Till next time,
From your “as per IRMER regulations” friends,
Uzoma, Jamie and Muhammad
